WiMAX Forum launches global initiative to accelerate technology roadmap

In response to the intensifying demand for 4G WiMAX networks and services, the WiMAX Forum has launched a global initiative to accelerate advanced WiMAX features that enhance the average performance of its current Release 1 technology by over 50% while remaining compliant with the IEEE Standard 802.16e. Based on this accelerated schedule, certified products using these enhancements are expected in late 2010.

This initiative will not delay the development of WiMAX Release 2 (WiMAX 2). In support of the expected completion of the IEEE Standard 802.16m in the second half of 2010, the WiMAX Forum is fast-tracking profiling and certification activities to prepare for WiMAX 2 product certification in late 2011.

WiMAX operators are providing an unprecedented amount of data, with some networks delivering over 10 gigabytes per month to the average user. Even without dramatic growth in average customer demand, successful expansion of the customer base can threaten network overload. The WiMAX Forum has recognized operator needs for more advanced technologies to future-proof their networks in the face of these inexorable trends.

Enhancements under development include support for additional MIMO antennae on the base stations (4 transmit antennae instead of 2), higher order (64 QAM) modulation on the uplink, downlink beamforming, and improved Fractional Frequency Reuse (FFR) to increase performance in Release 1 deployments while ensuring multi-vendor interoperability. These new features have the potential to double peak data rates and increase average and cell edge end user performance by 50%.

The WiMAX Forum is pioneering new levels of open network interoperability and performance in 2010 by driving Release 1 technology forward to meet the needs of operators concerned about future constraints brought about by their own success. With the completion of IEEE Standard 802.16m later this year, the WiMAX Forum is also set to expedite WiMAX 2 technology into the hands of operators and consumers. Because the market is already seeing 802.16m products in development, the WiMAX Forum is preparing for certification of Release 2 products in late 2011.

WiMAX 2 is based on IEEE Standard 802.16m, which is documented to meet the International Telecommunications Union’s “IMT-Advanced” requirements, delivering dramatic improvements in coverage and capacity that will form the foundation of the next decade of 4G technology. The standard provides for huge peak (zero path loss) transmission rates. For e.g., up to 300 Mbps in a 20 MHz downlink channel. It also provides for even lower latency. By enabling the aggregation of multiple RF carriers, wider effective channel bandwidths of up to 100 MHz are possible. Wider channels and higher order MIMO antenna configurations enable the scaling of capacity to many times that of the most advanced wireless systems today.

With hundreds of commercial networks in operation today, WiMAX has achieved the fastest market ramp of any wireless wide area network technology in history. With strong demand for WiMAX services and average monthly data consumption in the 7-10 GB/month range for some WiMAX operators, the WiMAX Forum is launching an initiative to accelerate additional advanced Release 1 features for certification in the second half of 2010. The WiMAX Forum is also fast tracking profiling and certification plans for the next generation of WiMAX, WiMAX Release 2 based upon IEEE 802.16m, to prepare for product certification in late 2011.

The WiMAX Forum currently tracks 559 WiMAX deployments in 147 countries estimated to cover over 620 million people across the globe. More than 130 devices and 60 base stations have been certified by the WiMAX Forum for the 2.3 GHz, 2.5 GHz and 3.5 GHz bands.

www.laalten.com

Hi Friend,

Today electricity is so crucial that villages of india still dont have proper electricity.

We use google a lot for our web searches.A research suggested that a black version of the Google would save lots of energy.

www.laalten.com was created inspired by this theory.

This is a search engine powered by Google.It saves energy because the screen is predominantly black.

The Top Windows 7 Tips and Tricks List

  • Windows key + Left: docks current window to the left side of the screen.
  • Windows key + Right: docks current window to the right side of the screen.
  • Windows key + Up: maximizes and/or restores foreground window.
  • Windows key + Down: minimizes active window.
  • If you want a more Vista-esque taskbar rather than the superbar (why anyone would revert is beyond me), right-click the Taskbar, go to Properties, check the ‘Use small icons’ option, then change the “Taskbar Buttons” option to ‘Never combine.’
  • Windows 7 now burns ISO files themselves instead of making users grapple with third-party application.
  • For those lucky people with a multi-monitor setup, Windows + SHIFT + Left (or Right) will shift a window from monitor to monitor.
  • Gone is the “Add Font” dialog. It’s been replaced with a much nicer system. Download a font and double-click it (you’ll be greeted with the familar font window, but you should notice it now has a ‘Install’ button).
  • Windows 7 now includes Gabriola. This is an elaborate display typeface that takes advantage of OpenType layout to create a variety of stylistic sets.
  • If you press Windows + 1, it will create a new instance of the first icon in the task bar. This is handy if you do a lot of coding and need to open several instances of a program.
  • If you right-click on a Taskbar icon, it brings up the much talked about Jump List. However, the same can be done by clicking with the left mouse button and dragging the icon “out” (so to speak). This was specifically designed for touch-enabled computer, such as your lovely HP TouchSmart PC.
  • To run a program as an Administrator, it’s now as easy as holding CTRL + SHIFT when you open the application.
  • With Windows 7, you can now create a ‘System Repair Disc.’ This is a CD bootable version of Windows 7 that includes the command prompt and a suite of system tools. Very handy for those really tough spots (which, with this still in beta, could be just around the corner). To get to this, simply open the Start Menu and type: “system repair disc” in the search field.

I’m sure there are plenty more Windows 7 tricks up floating around, but these are just the ones with me. Have you discovered any others? Leave a comment and keep expanding this list! :)

XP trics.....!!!

Is your "Show Desktop icon" in XP missing ?

The "Show Desktop icon" in XP missing, a lot of people seem to be confronted with this phenomenon.

Show Desktop icon

This small icon on the Quick Launch bar is very handy when you need to access a program or document on your desktop. No need to close or minimize all your windows first, just click this little fellow and voila, your desktop shows up.

Sometimes people loose this icon. It can accidentally be deleted or you may loose it for some other reason, but the bottom line is : only few people know how to restore it.

That's because it is not an ordinary shortcut.

To recreate it :

  • Click Start->Run
  • In the "open" box, type "notepad" (without the quotes)
  • Click ok
  • Copy the following lines in your new notepad window :

[Shell]
Command=2
IconFile=explorer.exe,3
[Taskbar]
Command=ToggleDesktop

  • Click "File" in the notepad menu and select "Save As"
  • Save the file to your desktop as Show Desktop.scf
  • Drag the new icon from your desktop to your Quick Launch toobar and select "Move here"

If you can't move the new Desktop icon to your Quick Launch toolbar for whatever reason, you can also try the following technique :

  • Right-click the new show desktop icon on your desktop and select copy
  • Open Windows Explorer and navigate to
    C:\Documents and Settings\\Application Data\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Quick Launch (replacing with the username for which you want to restore the show desktop icon)
  • In the right pane of the explorer window, right-click an empty spot and select "paste"

Maybe you don't see the Application Data folder in your Explorer. To see it, you must enable visibility for hidden folders :

  • In Windows Explorer, click the menu "Tools" and select "Folder Options..."
  • Click the "View" tab
  • Under "Advanced Settings", select "Show hidden files and folders"
  • Click ok

Disable Windows XP login prompt for password

This trick will show you how to bypass the login prompt in Windows XP with your "local account". Yes, it's only applied for local user accounts.

Most home users would love this trick. It allows you to bypass the login prompt on Windows startup and go straight to your desktop without a login.
This Windows XP feature is pretty cool in case the machine is mostly used by a single user. Is's kindda annoying when you're the only one using the pc and you have to login everytime, isn't it?

Use this trick at your own risks

Here's how:

  1. From Desktop, Click on "Start" >> "Run".
  2. Then type in "control userpasswords2" and press Enter.
  3. Uncheck the box for "Users must enter a user name and password to use this computer."
  4. Click "Apply" and "Ok".
